CSL clubs Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao – the richest club in China - and Beijing Guoan believe they can woo the striker who is no longer a guaranteed starter for club and country.
The 31-year-old will join former Chelsea star Oscar who was the latest name to join their growing list of stars with the Brazilian joining Shanghai SIPG in a £52 million deal worth £400,000 a week.
Former Manchester United and City star Carlos Tevez is also on his way to Shanghai Shenhua on a staggering £615,000-a-week.
Rooney earns £300,000 a week at United where he has two years left on his contract.

Beijing Guoan tried to sign Rooney last summer but the move fell through despite talks with his agent Paul Stretford.
Rooney, who would cost around £10 million, will not quit United in the January window as he sets sights on breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time scoring record of 249 goals for United.
