The Malian government has returned two deported people back to France - The says the deported people had no papers to prove they were Malian - The government therefore could not just accept them on the basis of assumption Mali govt returns deported people back to France The government of Mali has taken drastic measures in the case of two people deported to the country from France. The Malian government sent the two people back on the same planes by which they arrived, saying there was no proof that they were Malian citizens. The government explained that both people had been flown to Bamako using European travel permits and not Malian passports or papers. The government therefore made it clear that it would not people "simply assumed to be Malian". The government of Mali also went ahead to condemn the use of the European travel permits in cases of expulsion or deportation as it was "against international conventions". More than 360,000 people have reached Europe by crossing the Mediterranean this year, Many pass through Mali on their way although Malians are not among the 10 nationalities most likely to attempt the journey. In a similar vein, in 2016 alone, about 1,237 Nigerians were barred from entering Germany. The German police have in total turned away abut 20,000 people from their borders, airports and seaports.
