Modric wins UEFA player of the Year award in Monaco

Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric has been named the UEFA Champions League player of the year at a ceremony held in Monaco, France on Thursday evening, August 30.

The Croatia international defeated Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah to win the UEFA award in Monaco.

Last season, Luka Modric was superb for Real Madrid helping them to win the 2017/18 Champions League title beating Liverpool in the final in Kiev.

He also led his national team to the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia losing to France in the final.

He added that Mikel who currently plays in the Chinese League only talks with his mother - The 74-year-old stressed that all efforts to fix the issue have been futile After regaining freedom from the hands of unknown abductors, Pa Michael Obi who is the father of the Super Eagles captain Mikel has explained the pains he went through the day he was kidnapped. The 74-year-old also stated clearly to the Daily Trust Newspaper that his relationship with his star son has gone sour stressing that Mikel has not spoken to him for the past five years. He added that the kidnappers thought Mikel used to give him N50 million every week, but he claimed he told the abductors that he only had N2 million in his account.

Ikpeba, others storm Lagos for soccer party

Former African footballer of the year Victor Ikpeba was among other dignitaries who stormed Lagos for the first soccer party which was held at the Ikeja City Mall on Sunday, December 18, 2016. The razzmatazz which was hosted by TECNO mobile saw football lovers as well as other celebrities gather to celebrate the English Premier League. Fans jam-packed the whole venue to catch a glimpse of the super-Sunday cracker between Manchester City and Arsenal, a match which the Citizens came from behind to defeat the Gunners 2 – 1. Ikpeba who was the 1997 African footballer of the year was thrilled at the number of fans that trooped into the venue and according to him, such event gives football lovers the opportunity to unwind and also promote team spirit.

Chinese clubs offer Wayne Rooney outrageous N222m per-week deal

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney will be offered a staggering £700,000-a-week to join the Chinese Super League in the summer. According to the Mirror UK, two Chinese clubs are looking to make Rooney one of the world's highest earners. Rooney's wages will be £700,000-a-week (N222m-per-week converted from bank rate). Rooney could earn N222m per-week if he moves to China CSL clubs Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao – the richest club in China - and Beijing Guoan believe they can woo the striker who is no longer a guaranteed starter for club and country. The 31-year-old will join former Chelsea star Oscar who was the latest name to join their growing list of stars with the Brazilian joining Shanghai SIPG in a £52 million deal worth £400,000 a week. Former Manchester United and City star Carlos Tevez is also on his way to Shanghai Shenhua on a staggering £615,000-a-week. Rooney earns £300,000 a week at United where he has two years left on his contract. Rooney is no longer a starter for club and country Beijing Guoan tried to sign Rooney last summer but the move fell through despite talks with his agent Paul Stretford. Rooney, who would cost around £10 million, will not quit United in the January window as he sets sights on breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time scoring record of 249 goals for United.
