Nigeria is On Fire As

Inflationary Pressure The ripple effect of increased fuel prices will likely lead to a surge in inflation. As transportation costs rise, the cost of transporting goods and services will also increase. This increase in production costs will be passed on to consumers, leading to higher prices for basic necessities, such as food, utilities, and healthcare.

Removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria

Effects on Everyday Nigerians Increase in Fuel Prices The removal of fuel subsidy will inevitably lead to a significant increase in fuel prices. This rise will directly impact the cost of transportation, affecting the prices of goods and services across the board. The average Nigerian, already grappling with a high cost of living, may experience additional financial strain. For example, imagine a typical Nigerian worker who commutes to work daily. With the removal of fuel subsidy, the cost of transportation could increase by a substantial margin, resulting in reduced disposable income and potential hardship.

Akeredolu Breaks Silence On Deadly Owo Catholic Church Attack

Owa-Iuwa Street, on Sunday.
Naija News reports that Ondo Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in a statement on Sunday expressed sadness over the unprovoked attack and killing of innocent people of Owo, describing the incident as satanic and“unexpected”

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State, Richard Olatunde, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday where he stated that the attack is a calculated assault on the peace-loving people of the Owo Kingdom” who have enjoyed relative peace over the years.”

The statement partly reads:“I have spoken to the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ondo, Most Reverend Jude Arogundade, who is presently on his way to Owo. Similarly, I have had to cut short my party’s national assignment in Abuja and visit Owo immediately.

“This is an unexpected development. I am shocked, to say the least. Nevertheless, We shall commit every available resource to hunt down these assailants and make them pay. We shall never bow to the machinations of heartless elements in our resolves to rid our state of criminals.

“I commiserate with my people in Owo, particularly families of the those who lost their lives to this ugly and unfortunate attack. I extend my condolences to Olowo of Owo, Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye as well as the Catholic Church.

“I urge our people to remain calm and vigilant. Do not take laws into your hands. I have spoken to the heads of the security agencies. I have equally been assured that security operatives would be deployed to monitor and restore normalcy to the Owo kingdom.

“It is a black Sunday in Owo. Our hearts are heavy. Our peace and tranquillity have been attacked by the enemies of the people. This is a personal loss, an attack on our dear state.”

Journalists barred from accessing Kaduna zoo after trending pictures of starving lion

Speaking with Daily Trust, the Manager of the Zoo, Innocent Ameh said the pictures trending online were not from the zoo. Ameh said he was under strict instructions by the Kaduna State Ministry of Agriculture not to allow anyone gain entry into the zoo. He acknowledged seeing the pictures of the starving animals online but insinuated he had laughed it off knowing the pictures were not from the zoo.“Some wildlife experts came with a letter from Abuja that they saw some pictures and they wanted to see the lion. We showed them to confirm because of their letter and it was even feeding time so we gave the lion goat and they said: ‘heh social media.’ So this issue of social media, it was just like some years ago they said the lion killed someone,” he said.

The manager said the routine treatment which will include vaccinations had commenced on Friday but could not clearly tell journalists when it will end. “It is normal for the animals to be isolated during routine treatment because they are being vaccinated, so it will be risky to allow people to have access to them while this is going on,” he said.

However, our correspondent contacted the Kaduna State Commissioner of Agriculture, Halima Lawal whether the ministry had instructed the closure of the zoo but she said she could not have given such a directive as the zoo was a private business and not owned by the state government.

“That zoo is for a concessionaire, it has been privatized and it is not run by the Kaduna State government. It is run by the private person that they gave the zoo to who is responsible for looking after the animals as a money generating venture,” she said.
